England: Fire Safety – Building Safety Programme data June 2021

WOBO draws members and fellow professionals attention to the Cladding update within the UK.

The latest data from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government highlights the scale of the task that remains 4 years since Grenfell.

Of the 474 high-rise residential buildings (over 18m) and publicly owned buildings identified as having ACM cladding systems unlikely to meet Building Regulations (an increase of five since the end of May 2021) there are:

– 267 (56%) have completed remediation works
– 112 (24%) cladding removed but not complete
– 95 (20%) of buildings still have ACM cladding remaining
– 35 (7%) have not started remediation works, 8 of which are vacant (2%)

There remains a difference of the progress made by the:
– Social sector, 160 buildings, 151 (94%) ACM cladding removed. 9 buildings still have ACM.
– Private sector, 219 buildings 151 (69%) ACM cladding removed. 68 buildings still have ACM.

Not included in the stats above are the residential dwellings/flats in buildings between 11 metres and 18 metres in height in England, which is estimated as of December 2020 to be 1.42m across 76,000 buildings – giving a scale of the thousands of leaseholders affected.
