Inadequate means of escape from temporary sporting venue structures

A fire risk assessor found critical fire safety failures throughout several temporary structures utilised at a sporting event. These failures compromised the means of escape for large numbers of occupants.

Assumptions about an older building’s fire resistance leads to rapid fire spread

A reporter’s investigation of a fire in a two-storey block of flats revealed a lack of awareness of historic fire resistance requirements. The minimal fire resistance allowed rapid fire spread from the ground-floor flat to the one above, undermining the building’s compartmentation and evacuation strategy.
