Book Now: APS Autumn CPD –  When Safety Fails: Fatalities, Volunteer Workers, and the Legal Aftermath in Construction

Join Laurence Davis for a powerful CPD session exploring the tragic death of a volunteer during canal lock restoration works – and the serious legal consequences that followed. Drawing on first-hand experience from the coroner’s court, Laurence unpacks the safety failings, the HSE prosecution, and the inquest process, including whether unlawful killing should have gone to the jury. A must-attend for anyone involved in health and safety, legal compliance, or volunteer-led projects.

This webinar will run on two separate dates. The content will be the same for both sessions, so please only register for one.

Join HSM and Safe Monitoring Group on the 3 September to explore key insights on the importance of data-driven safety in gas detection.

This webinar will showcase real-world applications, including insights from our partners and clients, to demonstrate how data is not just a tool—but a transformative force in safety and environmental performance.

Refrigerant gases, particularly those with high global warming potential, are under increasing regulatory scrutiny. Accurate, real-time data is essential for detecting leaks early, minimising environmental impact, and ensuring compliance with evolving legislation.

We’ll discuss how advanced gas detection systems and data analytics are being used to monitor refrigerant gases more effectively, support sustainability goals, and drive innovation in HVAC and refrigeration systems.

Join HSM and BSiF on the 17 September to explore the critical role that good PPE plays in keeping the UK’s workforce safe and healthy.

PPE saves heads, eyes, skin, our hearing, it saves lungs hands, bodies and feet. Roy and Alan will explain that good quality fit-for-purpose PPE protects workers from serious harm and long-term illness.

This webinar will demonstrate the challenge of inadequate PPE being acquired or provided to wearers and the potential risks which that can create.

Join FSM and Apollo on the 11 September at 10:30am to explore the advanced capabilities of multi-sensor fire detectors and their critical role in enhancing fire safety.

A key advantage of multi-sensor technology is its ability to reduce false alarms, particularly those caused by non-fire stimuli like vaping, aerosols, steam, and stage smoke.

Standards such as BS 5839:1 emphasize the importance of using real stimuli and verifying that each sensor responds appropriately. Proper documentation, technician training, and access to system configurations are essential to ensure compliance and effectiveness.

Research by BRE and the FIA has shown that multi-sensors can reduce false alarms by up to 69%, making them a cost-effective and reliable solution for settings prone to nuisance triggers, such as theatres, accommodation blocks, and educational institutions.

Join HSM and 3M on the 24 September to explore the complex health risks of Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) and noise with the goal of simplifying its complexities and outlining actionable strategies to control vibration and noise exposure in metalworking processes.

Abrasives commonly used in metalworking processes are typically not regarded as a risk mitigation method.  However, recent research has demonstrated that the latest technologies in new abrasives can significantly reduce risks.

Theo Simon, a Global Application Engineer Specialist in abrasives at 3M, discusses how advancements in engineered abrasives and power tools in metalworking can help improve safety and productivity in the workplace.

Chris Steel, HM Principal Inspector of Health & Safety (Noise & Vibration Specialist) will discuss the importance of controlling these risks to reduce exposure.

Join FSM and EMS on the 30 September at 10:30am for an informative webinar on how wireless is changing the landscape.

Wireless fire detection technology has gone from strength the strength, and in recent years is now one of the fastest growing areas of fire safety, if not the fastest.

What is driving this change, and why are specifiers, consultants and building managers choosing wireless based fire systems, when upgrading or changing an existing system?

We will examine the phenomenon that is changing the face of fire safety, and how wireless is not just limited to a single system, but can be networked across many systems as well as being used to expand virtually any fire system, conventional or addressable, regardless of protocol or manufacture.

Join HSM and HSI Donesafe on the 18 September to explore how a digital-first approach to chemical management can turn SDS data into a driver of efficiency and smarter decision-making.

EHS professionals face increasing pressure to do more with fewer resources, and traditional approaches to SDS and chemical management often create bottlenecks rather than insights. Manual processes, disconnected inventories and siloed data slow down decision-making and can increase hidden risks across operations.

Find out how organisations are streamlining workflows, connecting chemical data to assets, and unlocking real-time visibility across sites – elevating chemical safety to a source of strategic advantage.

Looking beyond the headlines at the upcoming PFAS ban in our new webinar

PFAS and Fire Safety: Looking beyond the headlines

PFAS, or as they are more commonly called “forever chemicals,” are a group of over 10,000+ man-made substances that can pose significant risks to human and environmental health. PFAS have been and are widely used in our lives for their water, heat, and stain-resistant properties, however they come with many hidden costs. With the upcoming bans on chemicals like PFOS and PFOA, the fire industry is facing a major shift. With key bans on certain harmful chemicals set to take effect in July 2025, now is the time to assess your fire safety requirements to understand exactly how these evolving regulations could affect you.
