Safety & Security Digital Webinar Banner-3

From classrooms to training centres, incidents happen everyday, but, how we learn from them is what makes the difference.

On 16 September at 15:00 BST, join Langdon Dement, MS, CSP, Global EHS Advisor at Evotix, live for our first Health & Safety Digital webinar. We’ll explore how applying Human & Organisational Performance (HOP) principles can transform incident management across education and training environments.

Why this matters for education and training:

  • Incidents affect staff, students and learning environments
  • HOP principles build a culture of continuous improvement, not blame
  • Training providers can integrate these insights into their own programmes

HSE publishes report on the use of non-animal methods and other alternative approaches for UK REACH registration

In line with our obligation under Article 117(3) of UK REACH, HSE has published the 2022 to 2024 report on the ways registrants fulfilled their information requirements.

One of the aims of UK REACH is to promote the use of alternative methods for the assessment of the hazards of chemical substances. The reporting requirement set out in Article 117(3) supports this aim.

The information requirements for registration are laid out in Annexes 7 to 10 of UK REACH. Although in some cases the standard requirement is for information from an animal test, many opportunities to minimise animal testing are available to registrants, and new animal tests to meet these requirements must only be undertaken as a last resort.

The report outlines the ways in which registrants fulfilled their toxicological and ecotoxicological information requirements in registration dossiers submitted to HSE during the period 2022 to 2024.

View the report on the HSE website.

Get ahead: prevent stress, support good mental health

As school communities settle back into routines, it’s a busy time planning for the year ahead.

No matter your role in education, employers have a legal duty to factor the prevention of work-related stress into risk assessments and work plans.

Why planning ahead helps

When we feel prepared and in control, we’re less likely to experience stress and more able to cope when unexpected challenges arise.

Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, employers have a legal duty to assess and manage risks to employee health, including work-related stress.

Make it routine

This academic year, make prevention of stress part of your planning routine. HSE’s Working Minds campaign helps prevent work-related stress and promotes good mental health at work.

Start with these practical steps:

  • reach out and have conversations
  • recognise the signs and causes of stress
  • respond to any risks identified by agreeing action points
  • reflect on the actions taken – have things improved?
  • make it routine to check back in on how things are going

Manufacturing Noise

Manufacturing noise might be more dangerous than you think

Workers on or near the factory floor are exposed to machinery, equipment and processes that generate potentially harmful levels of noise. Prolonged exposure can result in irreversible damage to hearing. To effectively protect workers, employers must look beyond traditional risk assessments and PPE and develop a clear understanding of their noise environment.

With reliable insight into actual noise exposure, organisations can take a more precise and effective approach to monitoring and management that supports both worker and wellbeing and business outcomes. Read full article here.
