A discussion paper in response to the Building Confidence Report (BCR) is now open for public comment.

Recommendation 4 of the BCR suggested action on career pathways for building surveyors. The BCR noted that the role of building surveyors is critical to the building approvals process and suggested that there may be an inadequate supply to meet future needs. It is critical that the pathway to registration is clear and consistent across jurisdictions.

The ABCB has released a discussion paper on Evidence of experience for building surveyor registration. It proposes a model guide on building surveyor career pathways, obtaining and recording evidence of experience for registration, as well as balancing supervision and independent work. The discussion paper seeks feedback on the proposed guide including how it can be improved, to ensure each element is clear and practical.

Once finalised, it is anticipated that all state and territory governments will review and consider implementation of the guide.

Providing comment

Responses to questions in the discussion paper are welcomed until 11:59 PM AEST Monday 19 July 2021. Only responses submitted using the online form via the ABCB’s Consultation Hub will be considered.

If you have a question about this consultation, please contact the BCR Implementation Team.
