ABCB Water efficiency consultation document

The ABCB Office is seeking industry input on proposed changes to water efficiency requirements in NCC Volume Three. Since 2015, the Plumbing Code of Australia (PCA) has mandated minimum water efficiency standards. With improved fixtures and fittings, it’s now time to review if further reductions in flow rates would provide additional benefit. Have your say about water efficiency in the PCA….. Comments must be made by the end of January 2024

An innovative approach to sustainable mass timber

A new office building constructed using mass timber represents a new way of thinking about sustainable infrastructure.

T3 Collingwood, located in the inner-city suburb of Collingwood in Melbourne, represents a new approach to sustainable infrastructure.

Built by Icon and developed by American investment firm Hines, T3 Collingwood is believed to be Melbourne’s tallest hybrid timber office building. Eight of its 15 storeys are entirely timber and the building site spans 2120 m2.

The building, which is aiming for a six-star Green Star rating and a 5.5-star NABERS Energy rating, showcases the opportunities associated with timber construction in Australia’s carbon reduction efforts.

T3 Collingwood is named for the ‘three-T’ philosophy Hines took to the project; the sustainable use of timber, transit and technology was prioritised to reduce carbon emissions.

It is designed to both accommodate for the needs of business tenants, and support social and environmental concerns by prioritising cycling and pedestrian spaces surrounding the building.

Snowy 2.0’s ground-breaking innovations

With more than 40 km of tunnels and an immense underground power station, this hydroelectric project required some impressive innovation.

As developer of the Snowy 2.0 pumped-storage scheme, Italian infrastructure group Webuild and its client, Snowy Hydro Ltd are extending the legacy set decades ago by the original Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme by applying innovative solutions to one of the most challenging engineering endeavours in the world.

They are expanding a network of hydropower plants established under the original scheme and operated by Snowy Hydro Ltd, making Snowy 2.0 the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia.
