Australian Building Codes Board

WOBO appreciates the ABCB updates

Building Ministers met to discuss a range of issues – including the challenges facing the construction industry, the need to prepare our future buildings for a changing climate and the future work program of the ABCB. You can read the Communique from that meeting here.

One of the items Building Ministers considered, and approved, was our Business Plan for 2023-24. While we continue supporting industry with information and education to assist with the implementation of NCC 2022, we have also commenced work on key projects for the next edition of the NCC.

EV charging – Making it easy. Making it safe

To support Australians making the switch to electric vehicles (EV), the National Construction Code (NCC) is requiring new buildings to be ready for EV charging. To help industry, the ABCB has published a new advisory note.

To ensure we understand and respond proportionately to any updated evidence of EV risks, the ABCB has reviewed the approaches taken by international regulators, including those countries with greater uptake of EVs.

NCC classification of Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

Practitioners often seek advice about the application of National Construction Code classifications to SDA – This article clarifies that Classes 1a, 1b, 2 and 3 could each be appropriate for particular types of SDA – depending on the nature of the building.
