CEO Update with Gary Rake
We have finished 2024 with some important pieces of work. I have provided a summary of these in our latest news article, but I encourage you to regularly check the ABCB’s website for further updates over the next few months.
The key topics covered in our article include:
- an update on the next edition of the NCC
- more information on the prefabricated, modular and offsite construction handbook
- an update on the Building Product Registration Scheme consultation
- a wrap up on the 2024 ABCB public forums
Prefabricated, modular and offsite construction handbook
Building Ministers asked us to work with industry to find ways to facilitate increased use of prefabricated and modular construction to help support and increase the supply of new housing. We have developed a handbook in collaboration with Building 4.0 CRC to provide guidance on how to use prefabricated, modular, and associated Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) technologies safely, sustainably and in compliance with the NCC.
This handbook has been a great partnership between industry, academia and government and there is plenty more to do in this space.
Next edition of the NCC
We know our stakeholders are eager to hear how NCC 2025 is progressing. We are planning to present our advice to Building Ministers in early 2025 and we will look to publish public comment draft (PCD) submissions shortly after this.
The team here is looking forward to a short break, and the ABCB office will be closed from 24 December 2024 until 2 January 2025. I wish you all a safe and happy summer.
That’s all for this final update of 2024. See you in 2025.
