A strong EU wind industry is vital for environmental, economic and social well-being says EESC

A strong wind industry could improve the EU’s environmental, economic and social well-being. This is the main idea of the EESC opinion drafted by Thomas Kattnig and adopted at the March plenary session.

Faced with growing pressure from international competitors such as China, the European Union needs to step up its wind industry and promote its wind power development.

To achieve this result, the bloc must significantly expand, modernise and digitalise its grid infrastructure and, at the same time, it must create the corresponding storage infrastructure.

“The European wind industry is an important pillar of the green transition” said Mr Kattnig. “Developing grids for connecting, transmitting and distributing wind power will make it possible to integrate a substantially increased volume of wind power into the energy system.”

Global Wind Power Production is “Very Predictable” Finds Eoltech Study

Global Wind Power Production is “Very Predictable” Finds Eoltech Study

Eoltech, a leading wind and solar resource assessment consultancy, released today the findings of a new study that aimed at assessing the variations of the global wind resource over the last 15 years. The data show that worldwide wind power production is very predictable, with annual variations remaining within a ± 3 % range. These results are based on irec index, the wind energy index covering 80% of the world’s onshore wind farms installed as of 2023.

Study Charts Rapid Growth of Wind and Solar in US

Study Charts Rapid Growth of Wind and Solar in US

A new report from the non-profit research group, Climate Central, analyzing historical data on wind and solar energy in the US from 2014-2023 finds the amount of electricity produced from these two sources has increased over that period.

“Our nation generated 238,121 gigawatt-hours of electricity from solar in 2023 — more than eight times the amount generated a decade earlier in 2014. Wind power has more than doubled this decade, with 425,325 GWh coming from wind installations across the country in 2023, ” the report states.

The leading solar power generators were California, with 68,816 GWh, and Texas, with 31,739 GWh. Texas came out on top with wind power generation as well with 119,836 GWh.

Kent Secures Contract for the Spiorad na Mara Offshore Wind Project

Kent has been awarded a contract by Spiorad na Mara Limited for the pre-front end engineering design assessment of the proposed Spiorad na Mara offshore wind farm. The project, formerly known as N4, will play a significant role in helping Scotland achieve its net zero emissions target by 2045.

EM-Power Europe – The International Exhibition for Energy Management and Integrated Energy Solutions

Exhibition: June 19–21, 2024, Messe München

Conference: June 18–19, 2024, ICM München

With the expansion of renewable sources of energy and the electrification of the heating and transport sectors, it is becoming increasingly difficult to balance volatile power generation and grid congestions. Prosumers who generate, consume or feed electricity into the power grid depending on availability and costs reduce the load on the grids, making a significant contribution to ensuring a reliable 24/7 energy supply from renewable sources. This requires convenient and financially feasible solutions for measuring, controlling and billing energy flows.

The EM-Power Europe offers its visitors products and know-how for smart communication between decentralized systems, such as photovoltaics, heat pumps, battery storage systems and charging stations – all under the motto “Empowering Grids and Prosumers”. In this newsletter, you will learn how consumers can contribute to grid stability and benefit themselves, and how prosumers can get the most out of their PV system.

EM-Power Europe is one of four energy exhibitions taking place from June 19–21, 2024, in Munich as part of Europe’s Largest Alliance of Exhibitions for the Energy Industry, The smarter E Europe. With just one ticket, you can also visit Intersolar Europe, ees Europe and Power2Drive Europe, providing the framework for exchange between the solar, storage and e-mobility sectors.
