DNV awarded contract for South Korea’s largest offshore wind farm

Independent energy expert and assurance provider DNV has been appointed owner’s engineer by Korean renewable energy development company Elenergy Co Ltd for its 1.5 GW fixed-bottom Chujin offshore wind project. When completed in 2027, the Chujin plant will be the largest commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the country.

Perceptual Robotics gives a rare preview of its wind inspection capabilities

The company, which has offices in the UK and Europe, welcomed eight companies across Spain to take part in its demonstration day at Sotavento Experimental Wind Farm in Lugo, Spain. Perceptual Robotics engineers flew an M300 drone and used its unique Dhalion system to autonomously inspect a G47 wind turbine at the site on the 18th of October.

Two demos were held altogether, with attendees given a first-hand preview of the Dhalion system and an inspection as it happened in real time. Perceptual Robotics engineers then showed post flight what data processing looked like and how inspection images and results were presented and analysed in the system’s web portal.

“This was an excellent opportunity for different stakeholders in the industry to see up close how our system works in real operating conditions” said Kostas Karachalios, CEO of Perceptual Robotics. “We had people from all aspects of the industry attending, from asset and utility owners to drone companies and inspection organisations. By sharing our extensive experience of inspecting these massive structures, we can bring about the change the industry needs to make inspections more cost effective, timely and safer for all.”

Will Agrivoltaic Farming Have a Role in Our Food and Energy Future?

Will Agrivoltaic Farming Have a Role in Our Food and Energy Future?

Agrivoltaic farming involves strategically installing solar panels so they share land used for agriculture. Often, certain crops get planted directly underneath the solar equipment. Thus, deciding to put solar panels on the property does not interfere with the area farmers can use for growing crops or engaging in other relevant activities. Advocates for this option believe it could make a meaningful difference in both food supplies and energy infrastructure.

Breakthrough Heating System that Generates Free Electricity Debuts in Connecticut

Breakthrough Heating System that Generates Free Electricity Debuts in Connecticut

A revolutionary new heating system that also generates free electricity has been installed at the new Simsbury Center Apartments the first apartment building to tap the energy-saving technology. Hartford-based Enviro Power, Inc.’s SmartWatt Boiler is an innovative drop-in replacement for conventional heating systems.

It is the first and only boiler designed to convert heat that would otherwise be lost in traditional boilers into useful electricity.

The building’s owner, Freedom Property, LLC, recently converted the historic Iron Horse Inn into 21 luxury one-bedroom and four studio apartments. The SmartWatt boiler’s ability to generate clean energy at 98 percent efficiency (HHV) is an important aspect of the owner’s vision to design a building that would minimize environmental impact. It is the only boiler to incorporate a compact internal power plant that uses otherwise lost heat for the generation of free electricity. Utilizing existing heating infrastructures, the boiler is designed as a drop-in replacement solution to traditional heating systems that more than pays for itself over time by lowering a building’s energy costs.
