WOBO thanks Renewable Energy Magazine for the update in respect of Green Aggregate Materials.

Scottish Remediation Site First in UK to Produce Green Aggregates for Construction

SandandStone, the UK’s first supplier of green aggregate materials, has signed an agreement with Green Biofuels Ltd, which enables the business to deliver all of its remediation and aggregate projects with minimal environmental impact and carbon emissions.

All logistics and transport operations used by SandandStone will be fuelled by Green D+ HVO, the market’s leading fuel alternative that has been proven to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 90%, NOx by up to 30% and particulates by up to 85%. By using Green D+ HVO, in machinery that digs, grades, and processes aggregates, the embodied carbon of the final products is lowered, resulting in a low carbon green product.

SandandStone estimates it will extract, process and distribute 250,000 tons per year. The stones extracted during remediation are used in construction projects across Scotland, the North of England, London, and Essex.

The agreement is the final piece in the puzzle to provide environmentally aware contractors a responsible supplier from which to source green aggregates. In order to help eliminate carbon emissions from the distribution of the stones, the remediation site has also adopted a cleaner and more efficient network of rail and shipping freight significantly reducing road transport.

Advance Construction Scotland, one of Scotland’s largest groundworks and civil engineering companies, has already signed up as a client of SandandStone to purchase green aggregates for their various projects – making them one of the first companies of its kind to embrace the use of green aggregates.
